Buy: Misspelled Graffiti

Is there any fail more epic than misspelled graffiti? You go to all the trouble of thinking up a memorable message, purchasing supplies and scouting suitable locations, and then halfway through you realize that the raspy-voiced pop singer is actually ‘Stewart.’ What can you do but try and finish strong and hope that no one notices? And that’s if you even notice that you messed up. How embarrassing must the alternative be, when you walk past the bus stop you tagged and realize “Oh dear! ‘Faggot’ really has two Gs!” How paranoid must you get when, having marked your territory against gentrifiers, you find that you were wrong about what the plural of ‘yuppy‘ is? I bet you get chills, certain every time you pass your handiwork that the latte-sipping, Apple-loving newcomers are now mocking your inferior education behind your back.

Luckily for those of us who enjoy such things, flickr is a vertiable treasure trove of spelling mistakes committed to public space:

This one is elegant and subtle.

“Take that, imperialist US bastards! …what, what?………………….Goddammit.”

This anonymous hero was not scared to take on the sistem.

I once misspelled ‘disappoint’ twice in two different ways in two different newspaper headlines, but I never once spelled it like this.

Bonus points for racist misspellings: Double my feeling of superiority, double the fun.

Finally, I’ll leave you with one that’s ambiguious. Is it a garden-variety misspelling, or clever lefty pun? You decide.

It was back in the Knight Crier days. I did it once with one S and one P, and again with two each.
