Don’t Buy: Disappearing as a Birthday Celebration

Like many of us at BuyorDontBuy, we rely heavily on SurftheChannel.com to catch us up on all our favorite shows, introduce us to new ones and watch bootleg versions of movies for the very low price of FREE!

So it was to my dismay when I visited the site to catch up on Californiacation last night to see this message:

On October 1st 2008 SurfTheChannel will be celebrating its 1st birthday.

We have achieved a lot in the last year but the internet is an evolutionary beast that demands change.

Therefore, at 8pm GMT on October 1st SurfTheChannel will be leaving it’s legacy for the world.

What? What kind of celebration is that? They just added a search feature. And added a better disclaimer that doesn’t hold them responsible for the copyright infringement videos they link to! Even their porn ads must be up!

I’ve been taking a break on the movie section thinking tomorrow will be a better day to curl up in bed and waste two hours looking at an overly pixelated film. Stupid me, because that tomorrow ends at 8pm!

By the time I get home from work today, I have 3 hours (tops!) to finishing watching all of Smallville (my latest guilty pleasure), the latest episode of True Blood and the X Files movie. (Aw man, I wanted to see Tropic Thunder too, darn it!)

There is just not enough time. Surf The Channel, you are the worst at celebrating birthdays. And for that, this is a don’t buy. They are correct though, the Internet is evolutionary… who’s got suggestions to fill my television void?

I’d like to offer a special thanks to SurftheChannel for making my posts on “Snuff Box” and “Skins” possible.

Also, Don’t Buy: “it’s” as possessive.

  4. Well, Sara, you are absolutely correct - SurfTheChannel is a totally fucking lame friend. Like the one that get’s depressed during that time of year that is focused on them

Just because you are not appreciative of your existence, doesn’t mean that everybody else doesn’t enjoy your company and the way you please us all. Don’t be such a selfish prick and think that it’s a good idea to go kill yourself because you feel that the Internet is an “evolutionary beast” and that it needs change. I think that that’s a load of baloney.

Of course it demands change, everything does, but let’s face it; we all have busy lives and cannot revolve around the show times of ‘The Office,’ ‘Dirty Jobs,’ and ‘Myth Busters’… That is why you are there for us! You help make our lives easier by giving us the convenience and leisure of catching up on our favorite characters and all the CRAAAZZZZYY situations they get themselves into.

But, anyway… Sara, this is my suggestion in regards to fulfilling your “television void”: I say, “Fuck it!” to ‘Smallville’ and, as for the ‘X-Files’ movie…. eh, I don’t know - it didn’t even have ALIENS in it! Last I checked, that was the whole point to engaging in X-Files-related activities - but who am I to know? I am not an avid TV-watching freak. That’s beside the point, though.

Back to my conclusion, just come over to my place and we can watch ‘Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!’ ‘Metalocalypse,’ and ‘Home Movies’ as far as TV shows go - and ‘Tropic Thunder’ is playing in the Student Center soon. Cinema quality!! Big screen!! Free popcorn!!! How can you beat that?
