Buy Or Don’t Buy

So last night I got invited to tag along with Brooklyn based rock band The Knees to a party at Moby’s house. At first I thought it was kind of rando, but then I found out it was actually a party held in Barack Obama’s honor, which totally explains everything. Barack is, after all, THE unifying force that manages to bind us all together.

Moby’s house/apartment/condo is on Orchard St. in Chinatown, and we knew when we had arrived because there was a crowd of under dressed, overly made up girls smoking on the street in front of the building. No cigarettes inside! Which is cool by me, I mean, I have the same rule.

The spread was pretty good. The bar was even better. It was after midnight when we rolled in so naturally everyone was well imbibed, but surprisingly everything was well in stock. I didn’t actually eat anything (because I don’t eat public food) but I saw a discarded Whole Foods grocery bag under the mid-century modern credenza serving as a buffet, so I’m pretty sure it was of good quality. Actually, a lot of things at Moby’s house were of good quality. There was an Eames molded plywood chair, mixed in with some well placed antiques and a really nice hand woven wool rug. That rug really tied the whole room together.

Moby actually peaced his own party a little after we got there, and it left some confusion as to who exactly was in charge. Where did he go? I’m not really sure. But he did seem to really enjoy talking to Deana, the lead singer of The Knees. I think she was the star of the party. But then again, aren’t we all made of stars? Indeed.
