Buy: The Knees v. Giants and Pricing

We all know that the music industry is not what it was during Frank Sinatra’s time. What does that mean? No one knows how to make money, everyone wants something for nothing. iTunes is a giant, no one likes giants. I’m personally scared of giants. So what? Are we just gonna let the music industry die and a single giant rule the land? I would. Because, we’ll I’m scared of giants.

But there is a hero on the front. The issue of the music industry is paying. Why pay for it if you can get it for free? Think about it, bittorrents, blog mp3 links, I’m guilty of both those means. But the reason why is because giants, labels, people don’t know how to adapt their selling model to get the most of their money and the listeners’ money. But this hero, this mastermind figured it out. A pricing model doing what works for this crazy digital world.

Who? The Knees. A band hailing from Brooklyn. They set it up so you no longer have to pay per song, but you can get the album from Amie Street for $5. Or, if you are a music collector, you can get a hard copy of the CD for $1609 (you know, a limited first edition pressed CD) on CD Baby. (That’s the price you have to pay as an emerging artist if you want pressed CDs).

I mean, this hero, besides be apparently smart in their marketing ways, also have a great name! My last name! And sound. While being available on Amie Street, it also was number one during its debut week. That’s 7 days toppin’ charts (and if you take a listen, it will probably will be up there again).

So, what are you gonna go the Knee route and be a pioneer, or be a lame pirate (argg), a giant (fee-foe-fum) or just dead (braiinnsss). If you are a band, think first, and give credit to the Knees for this revolution, or if you are a consumer, check out the band. They’ve already been written up here, here and here. Also, rumor has it Samantha Ronson, a lesser but very popular Ronson, will be playing the Knees during her future DJ gigs. Get to know the Knees before they become Lindsay Lohan’s favorite band.
