I’m going to take this opportunity to send a little love out to the other 500,000 or so inhabitants of the place I currently call home, Washington D.C. Washingtonians are not really known for being awesome. The city was famously described by JFK as possessing “Southern efficiency and Northern charm.” (Burn!) It also gets shit on constantly by every politician ever trying to succeed with rural voters, because apparently the place where things of national importance actually get done is an evil cesspool of nothing but greedy fat-cat politicians and high-priced hookers. (And only a Washington outsider is capable of changing that!)
But there are two reasons I am going to celebrate them today. First: Barack Obama won 93% of the votes in D.C. BAM! You probably couldn’t even get those kind of results in Kenya. And really, who would know who should be running our country better than the people who live in its friggin’ capital?
Election Day was great this year, because as I walked around Dupont Circle, I saw countless people with those cute little “I Voted!” stickers on their shirts. And I was correct in believing that 9 out of 10 of them had voted for Obama! (Possibly even more, because I work in the Gayborhood.)
Second reason: This weekend I ventured home to Lansdale, PA. I drove there. And what I noticed on that 3-hour drive was that ALMOST NOBODY had an Obama or McCain sticker on their car, let alone any sticker at all. What the fuck, Maryland/Delaware/Pennsylvania? Do you just not care enough to triumphantly declare your political affiliation on your bumper? Are you not concerned that I had nothing to look at for 3 hours but bare metal and trees?
Thus my conclusion: people in “real America” might be better drivers than those in D.C., but they are certainly not better citizens.

When I went home the week before the elections there were like thousands of McCain and Obama signs all over the place. Find a new thesis, Bailey.
price check: dc sucks!
Nope. I maintain that there were no bumper stickers on I95. It was a boring, boring drive.
I can’t wait to go back to Grand Rapids, Michigan for Thanksgiving. I bet there will STILL be campaign signs up in people’s lawns. That’s just how we roll.
Also, Christmas wreaths in April are not that uncommon a site.
Yeah but they also allow pot smokin’ in MI.
I think bumper stickers, in general, are in bad taste.
