Don’t Buy: World-Wide Puppy-Obessesion

I love puppies. Especially this one. But, really?

I don’t care what Obama picks for his first pooch. I know about past presidential dogs, but I was never involved or heard so much about them. I know Bush had a Scotty. The Clinton’s had Buddy. And other presidents had other dogs and Nixon had Checkers.

So here we have a President Elect without a dog. (How did he get voted in without having dog?!) And at first, I thought it was just America being dumb and obsessing over another trivial matter, which as Americans, we do really well. But, nope. It’s world-wide. Apparently Peru, who is completely ignoring half of the requirements Obama laid down (1. it be hypoallergenic and 2. it be a mutt) thinks it has a worthy contender.

So Peru is offering a pure-bred Peruvian Hairless, possibly named Ears. What? Peru? We are America, we like American dogs, we also like to name our own pets. So Peru.. please stay out of our internal affairs!

Where did I find out about this dog dilemma? The BBC! That’s British, meaning England! Meaning another country. Yo, England, your economy sucks too, be concerned about that and not our non-issues.

And don’t get me started on Australia’s input, who took time to run through the history of past “first dogs”. My personal favorite quote is:

Endearingly, one of [George] Washington’s hounds was named Sweetlips, at least making her sound more attractive than Ms Palin.

Thanks for the unnecessary coverage on a pointless story tied to one of the most awaited elected President in my lifetime. But we have got this dog story covered just fine. Like, really, we’re good. And, why don’t we just use Obama’s Change.gov site to decide this inconsequential matter?

and that dog is ugly.
