Don’t Buy: Michael Cera More and More
The more and more I hear about and hear from the less and less I like him.
Let’s show how he got to be a best buy to a don’t buy.
2006 Michael and Clark. Hilarious. Ego-free. And played a character of a regular teen, not intensely awkward and not an attempted heart throb.
2004-06 Arrested Development. This was it. This was awesome. He played an awkward teen who delieved that awkwardness in comic gold. It was a great cast, great show, great character. Cera received cult fandom. Then it got canceled.
2007 Superbad. The movie was funny. He was funny. Seth Rogan’s writing was funny. Great. It launched Cera into the mainstream.
NOTE: No hating yet…
2007: Juno. So, wasn’t a huge fan of that movie. In fact, I’m not going to get into it. But this made Cera a hearthrob and also made it abundantly clear that he will forever play the awkward kid. So some disenchantment began to grow.
2008: Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist. Did anyone else see this garbage? He plays a pathetic awkward teen. He also played the role as another desirable guy. He isn’t desirable, Hollywood, I don’t want to find him attractive.
2009: Rumors started to arise about Arrested Development. All the old cast members have agreed to sign on… except… Michael Cera. Total don’t buy.
2009: To play off of his humor of being a pathetic awkward teen, he partook in a YouTube video that made fun of Christian Bale’s rant. Not only did the video come out a few days ago, but the timeframe to mock that was 2 days after the fact not a week or two weeks. That is a joke fail.
In his case: superfamous = super lame.

“I don’t want to find him attractive.” What does that mean compared to “I don’t find him attractive.”
it could either mean:
1. I hate him but I find him attractive, which creates an uncomfortable cognitive dissonance
or
2. I don’t find him attractive, so I want the media to stop presenting him to me as attractive (probably the same way most men feel about Sarah Jessica Parker)
I know, I know. Us womenfolk is so confusing sometimes!!!
However, his drunk history appearance IS hillarious
i feel like you could do the same type of post for Will Farrell or any comic genius in this era that gets locked into a roll type.
he created this roll type just like Farrell created his. maybe we’ll see him pull a Truman Show or Eternal Sunshine type of move someday.
No, cause that means he couldn’t play a 15-22 year old. And see! Jim Carrey broke free of his “rubber face” act. And Will hasn’t completely cemented himself into that place.
Will had movies like Stranger Than Fiction and even Winter Passing.
not gonna lie… I liked N and N’s playlist, wasn’t expecting to, but thought it was fun. Do have to agree that it seems like he will forever play the awkward kid, but I do think he does it very well. But the Arrested Development thing alone is enough to get the “don’t buy” stamp. CMON!
