Buy: Boxed Water
Ok, so I drink a lot of bottled water. Sorry guys. I know it’s supposed to be really selfish or whatever, but that’s a personal branding choice I’m willing to make. I get thirsty!
Anyway, I’m not sure how I feel about this advance in packaged water design. On one hand, I can’t really picture myself chilling on a hot day with my box of water. On the other hand, it’s a large step up in design and environmental consciousness. According to my favorite new blog, PSFK, there is a sustainable company in Michigan producing flat packed boxes that can be filled with water on demand, and are totally more recyclable than anything else you could ever hope to suck H2O out of.
The only problem now is, what kind of water do you fill it with? You’d better hope for some artesian spring, or a reverse osmosis filter, because apparently you can catch a second hand dose of estrogen and Prozac from regular old tap water.

Maybe I’m not understanding the concept correctly, but why would you buy a recyclable box that you have to fill with water yourself…when you could just buy a plastic or metal water bottle (ie http://www.kleankanteen.com) that’s reusable?
I also drink tons of bottled water, but I’m going to buy one of those metal ones any day now…
I know. I think the idea is that the company produces the boxes, and ships them to where they’re filled locally, and then the bottler (boxer? lol) ships them to the local store where you buy them.
Also, I have one of those metal bottles
I just don’t trust my building’s pipes.
