Buy Or Don’t Buy: The Past Two Weeks
Another QuickHits edition!
Don’t Buy: The Jonas Brother Engagement — This is what happens when you make a 21-year-old wear a promise ring.
Buy: Sarah Palin’s Resignation — Two reasons: 1) She went out on top with a resignation speech that was full of the folksy sports metaphors and rhetorical nonsensicals that make a Palin speech a Palin speech. 2) This effectively buries any hopes for Palin 2012; If the woman couldn’t handle running a state with less people than Columbus, how can she seriously claim to able to run the country?
Don’t Buy: The ‘Famous People Always Die in Threes’ Meme — Famous people do die in threes. They also die in twos, fours and fives. And ones. obviously.
Buy: The Fourth of July — With some holidays (Christmas, Easter, Veteran’s Day), the fun stuff you do is a distraction from the true meaning of the day. With Independence Day, the fun stuff IS the point.
Buy: Gawker’s NYC Prep Recaps — I haven’t actually watched the show and probably never will, but the recaps have everything I need: mean nicknames, unabashed literary touches and hobo poetry. Hobo poetry!
Buy: Using Google Trends to Make Fun of Dumb People — Yay!
