Buy Or Don’t Buy: This Week
![]()
Another QuickHits edition: Because why write paragraphs when you can write sentences?
Don’t Buy: NBC - This is getting sad. Jeff Zucker: To paraphrase Kanye, you need to run your business like you have some type of respect for yourself.
Don’t Buy: The Facebook Bra Meme - I am Facebook friends with my mom and my grandma because I love them very much. But sometimes there are lines.
Buy: David Brooks’ Argument Against “Avatar” - I think it’s funny that an old-style Reagan conservative is basically making the same post-colonialist reading of the film as io9 made a few weeks ago.
Buy: The Northern Ireland Sex Scandal - It turns out that the wife of the First Minister of Northern Ireland has an predilection for younger men, and showed her affection to one young suitor by finding him the seed money to start up a cafe. Everything a scandal needs is here. Sex? Check. Financial impropriety? Check. Food? Check. (Although my cousins in Belfast say the service in the cafe is terrible.) And the name of this 59-year-old seductress? Mrs. Robinson. Bonus points!
Don’t Buy: Rudy Giuliani - Rudy later also pointed out that after Dallas, Lee Harvey Oswald never assassinated a President.
Buy: Kate Gosselin’s Hair Extensions - They look gr-”8″!
I’m sorry for that one.
Don’t Buy; Peter Biskind’s Specious Claim That Warren Beatty Slept With 12,775 Women - How did author Biskind come up with such a specific figure? He counted the days between Beatty’s 20th birthday and his 51st, assumed Beatty slept with a new woman every one of those days (never repreating or taking a day off) and then published his findings in a rigorous peer-reviewed journal. I’m kidding about one of those.
Don’t Buy: Having To Catch Up With The Back Half Of “Chuck” Season 2 This Weekend Before Season 3 Starts - Although this means I have an excuse to watch “Chuck” all weekend. Secret Buy!
